5th and 6th class pupils were invited to attend the “Night Candles are Burnt Out” exhibition in the Hunt Museum. The workshop illustrated the journey of electricity, how it came to Ireland through the Shannon Hydro Electric Scheme that was developed in Ardnacrusha, early electrical appliances, how people of the past reacted to this new innovation, how over consumption of electricity has led to issues with climate change, new innovations in renewable energy being developed and actions we can take as a community to move towards a more hopeful future. The children particularly enjoyed cycling to generate energy to charge household appliances. Our thanks to the Hunt Museum and Greensource who covered the cost of this trip.
