News from Scoil Naomh Iosef

The boys and girls of Scoil Naomh Iosef are always very busy at school but a lot of our pupils are also involved in organisations and events outside of school.  The following is run down of recent news:

  • Broadford United AFC:

Many children are busy training with Broadford AFC including the younger children who train with the U6s and U8s managed by three of our parents Maurice Brown, John O’ Dell and Declan O’ Flynn.  Emma O’Brien and Meghan Mc Carthy were involved with the U8 girls team who won a blitz recently.

Molly Mc Carthy, Chloe Cussen, Ellie-May Sweeney, Grace Cussen and Katie Horan  in 5th and 6th class are involved in an upcoming Cup Final with Broadford AFC.

In other soccer news, Molly Mc Carthy in 6th class plays with Limerick Desmond Ladies and they have qualified for an All Ireland Semi-Final versus Mayo.  Good Luck Molly!

  • Drom/Broadford GAA News

Drom/Broadford Ladies U12 team involving Saoirse Mc Carthy, Nicole Mc Cathy, Molly Mc Carthy and Grace Cussen have reached the County A final.

Féile News:   The boys from Drom/Broadford will host Mayo while the girls will host Derry.  The children will be busy playing matches in the coming weeks.  Good Luck also to Pat Curtin and Jack Shanahan who will be participating in the hand-ball section of Féile in Ring, Co. Waterford on June 18th & 19th.

  • Taekwando

Daniel Fealy in 1st class recently won three gold medals and a Tawkwando competition for patterns, team patterns and sparring. Well Done Daniel

  • Swimming + Community Games

Congratulations also to the Mc Auliffe sisters; Mary, Clodagh and Orlaith who each won medals swimming in the Community Games lately.

Kevin Cotter had great success with the Tug of War in Abbeyfeale recently. Maith Thú Kevin.

  • Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann

Many of our pupils are members of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann and are affiliated with neighbouring branches of CCÉ such as CCÉ Cluain Chreadhail ( Raheenagh/Kileedy) and Milford CCÉ.  The following children participated in the recent County Fleadh Cheoil in Glin. Well done to all who participated and best wishes to those continuing on to the Munster Fleadh which will take place in Listowel in July.

Orlaith Shanahan- Rang a hAon – 3rd place in the U10 Tin-whistle heat

Gavin Farrell – Rang a Trí – 1st place in U12 Boys English Singing

Darragh Scanlon – Rang a Ceathar -U12 solo concerting, U12 Grupaí Cheoil & U12 Duet

Robert Shanahan – Rang a Cúig – U12 Grupaí Cheoil ,U12 Tin-whistle

Jack Shanahan – Rang a Sé – U15 Grupaí Cheoil, U15 Tin-whistle

Sean Scanlon – Rang a Sé – U15 Grupaí Cheoil, U 15 Banjo, U15 Céilí Band – 3rd place (recommended to Munster)

  • Dancing

Laura Fealy recently place 2nd in the Open Championship in the National Finals, An Comisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha. This competition was held in City West in Dublin.
